Decommissioning and rebuilding of existing buildings:

  • A secondary school with a capacity of 600,
  • A type C gymnasium,
  • 6 staff accommodations.

Technical characteristics

The superstructure of all the buildings (the secondary school, the gymnasium and the associated premises) is made entirely of wood; only the project's infrastructure (the 50-space car park and the semi-underground part of the gymnasium) will be made of concrete.

The timber structure also means the façades can be thermally insulated with straw and hemp wool, organically-sourced materials from a local growing and processing facility.

The entire façade of the building is made of a natural material, burnt wood. This natural material harmonises with the landscaping and is combined with a light-coloured brick base to ensure the sustainability of the structure and links to the public space.

Burnt wood is also used in the facade cladding. Raw earth is used to create partitions between the rooms and the interior passageway.

Extensively landscaped green roofs and other landscaped areas help renature and introduce “ordinary nature” into the city, helping to develop biodiversity.

In the centre of the patio, the playground has been redesigned to combat the urban heat island effect following the “Courtyard Oasis” recommendations.

Heating and domestic hot water are provided by the city's geothermal heating network in conjunction with photovoltaic solar panels on the roofs.

Double flow ventilation throughout all the premises ensures comfort and air quality objectives will be met, particularly with regard to CO2 levels in the premises.

  • Photovoltaic panels,
  • Reuse of materials,
  • Clay bricks (from soil excavated from Greater Paris development projects).
